Mr Renny Hemingway
Chair of Governors
My name is Renny (Ren) Hemingway and I have lived in North Duffield with my family for 28 years. My wife June works in the school as an HLTA so you or your children may have already met her. Although our four children have now all entered adulthood three of them did attend the school when they were younger before progressing to Barlby.
After over twenty years of service I chose to take early retirement in March 2018 from Greencore Grocery in Selby where I was the Commercial Director. In this role, I had overall responsibility for sales, marketing and product development as well as being involved in budget planning, business strategy and training. Prior to this, I worked for numerous food manufacturing companies, predominantly in sales, although I was once a tax collector for the Inland Revenue!
I became a Governor in March 2019 and was elected Chair in September of the same year. Along with the other Governors, I share an ambition for our school to be second to none in giving our children the best possible learning experience in a safe, happy, caring and friendly environment and to help in ensuring our vision of ‘Growing Learners for Life’.
I am also chair of the village Parish Council and in my spare time enjoy watching football (a Hull City fan), visiting the theatre, model railways and Motown music (I am an avid Temptations fan!).

Mrs Suzanne Broome
Co-opted Governor
I have lived in the village for 22 years and have been involved with our school in various roles since 2010. My daughter Abi attended the school from 2008 and I became a member of Friends in 2010. In 2012 I became a parent governor, leaving in 2018. I then was re-elected as a co-opted governor in 2023. If you have had children in year 6, my husband is the guy who does the SATs breakfasts (bacon butty Thursday, mmmm).
I worked in admin, management and customer service for over 30 years before completely changing my carer and becoming a PA/carer, a job I totally love. During my time in admin I have worked with estate agents and house surveyors and in a secondary school in data and exams.
I believe that children are our future and agree with the schools ethos of ‘Growing Learners for Life’. I myself am an avid learner and enjoy attending courses on various subjects whenever possible. I also enjoy walking/hiking, travelling, swimming, dogs and spending time with my family. A little known fact about me? I have cage dived with Great White Sharks.

Mrs Jo-Anne Smith
Co-opted Governor
I have lived in North Duffield for over 23 years now and have worked at the school, in various roles, for over 20 years! During this time my own daughters attended the school and have maintained friendships from these early beginnings, a legacy to the caring and happy family environment nurtured by our school. I am committed to working with our Governors to ensure that this ethos continues to grow and develop future generations.
While working at school I have studied and gained a degree in Teaching and Learning. This has helped me to develop and focus my skills as Pastoral Support Officer to support Pupil Premium children and all mental health issues that impact on our learners; an area that I am passionate about. All aspects of the school and its community are important to me however, and I am keen to help develop the aspirations of the school and its pupils.
In my spare time I love to get outdoors and garden in particular. I enjoy exercise, spending time with my family and reading.
